Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (May 7, 1840 – November 6, 1893) was a Russian composer, and the first Russian composer to gain fame internationally. His style was based on both Western and Russian influences. Tchaikovsky's works include six symphonies, ten operas, and three ballets; and he is best-known for his ballet The Nutcracker.
